To all the moms

Melissa Goveas' mother reads my blog -- or at least that's what Melissa told me. So this blog entry is for her mom, and for all of the mothers of the young women who work at Karyo Edelman.

Some context first. It's been a long week. Many hours of work. Far fewer hours of sleep. The Olympic Games start tomorrow and I am feeling emotional. Proud like never before. To be Canadian. To live in Vancouver and host the world. To be a leader at Karyo Edelman. To work with very talented and dedicated staff who have pulled out all the stops for the dozen or so Olympic clients, and the staff who are working hard to keep the lights on for old and new clients while the Games go on, so we will all have something to come back to when they are over.

But this blog is about the younger women in the office. I know I run the risk of leaving out the guys. But I am a mother of daughters, and I don't know that much about sons.

This is what I do know. For the young women to be so confident, so capable, so willing to chip in and help out. To walk tall, to get it done, to be unphased, to say sure. To lead events, to talk to strangers, to hold their own -- they have mothers back home who told them they can, they should. Who helped them grow a set of wings so later in life they could take the leap and fly.

And our company is benefiting big time.

So, to Melissa's mom and all the other moms, thanks. Really. For doing such a good job.

Patti, I think mums play a very important role in shaping and influencing their kids' futures. Thanks for writing this. I will have my mum read it. I'm sure she would like to.

This is the sweetest blog post I've ever read. Any employee who feels appreciated will work that much harder, just to make sure they don't let you down.
